A panel of defense policy analysts predict that there may be a terrorist attack with biological weapons in 4 years.

In 4 years, something as terrfying and disastrous like this could happen, or maybe anytime since so many countries have biological warfare weapons to use.  Biological warfare could wipe out  an entire population or maybe even the whole world.  This definately affects how we live.  Societies should do something to prevent outbreaks of sicknesses and diseases from happening with the help of biotechnological precautions!

FIGHT against BIOLOGICAL WARFARE:

 

  • Morphotek Inc. says the company has received $2.7M in funding from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to help and support the preclinical development of fully human therapeutic monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) that have the ability to neutralize the toxic effects of Staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB) in vivo. This development project is a defense initiative in the fight against biological warfare agents
  • Brookhaven National Lab and USAMRIID--Scientists are developing an effective antidote for botulinum toxin - one of the world's most feared biological weapons.
  • ScienceDaily (Mar. 3, 2008) — At the University at Buffalo, scientists have developed a powerful air sterilization technology which has killed every biological agent that it was challenged with, including airborne spores, viruses and bacteria in independent tests conducted for the U.S. Department of Defense.
  • Infectious disease researchers at the University of California, Irvine, have shown the effectiveness of a potential alternative to the existing smallpox vaccine that can replace the current biodefense stockpile for this lethal virus.

  • The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) will develop and deliver 90,000 doses of a prophylactic drug that will protect soldiers against poisoning by organophosphorus (OP) nerve agents.
Thank you to the beneficial innovations of biotechnology, scientists have devised antidotes for disasters that may plague a population.  The research began with genetically modified goats! Some researchers from Canada and the United States claim that they have found the piece of the puzzle for the cure against biological weapons modified goats! The scientists says that the drugs work but there is still room for improvement through biotechnology.  These scienteist say that biotechnology applications are an appropriate response to a modern threat.
